Biography |

Elaine Kenny began studying music at the age of five in the Cork School of Music. Over the years, she has studied the viola with Tomás McCarthy, John Vallery and Joachim Roewer, as well as receiving master classes from Professor Bruno Giuranna, Massimo Paris and Liviu Stanese. Elaine completed her BA in Music and English in 2008 in University College Cork, and her BMus in 2009 in UCC. She studied under Professor Bruno Giuranna in the Masters in Classical String Performance in the University of Limerick (2009-2011). She was also one of the recipients of the Lyric fm Scholarship for 2010/2011 and performed on Lyric fm on National Music Day 2011. She recently completed a national concert tour with pianist Michael Joyce, including concerts in Limerick, Cork, Dublin, Kilkenny and Waterford. Elaine has led the viola section of the National Youth Orchestra and has performed with many orchestras including the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra (Side-by-side course), Cork Chamber Orchestra and Summer Music on the Shannon Chamber Orchestra. In 2008, she played the solo viola d’amore part in Madama Butterfly in Dublin with Opera Ireland/RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Elaine has received chamber music tuition from musicians including Bruno Giuranna, Ferenc Szucs, Michael Wolf, Adrian Petcu, Constantin Zanidache, Simon Aspell and Gregory Ellis. In 2009/2010, Elaine was involved with the Irish Chamber Orchestra Outreach Project in Limerick. Elaine is a member of Academos, the Irish World Academy Chamber Orchestra. Over the past year, she has performed in orchestras accompanying the East Cork Choral Society, the Limerick Choral Union and Ancór Chamber Choir. |
