Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Ireland

Already we are approaching the fouth year of our Competition! It is very encouraging to see that the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year is developing into an important date not only for us as Freemasons, but in the music world in Ireland generally.

In the current hard times we are very proud to be able to sponsor a showcase for the young musicians who will be the bedrock of the future of classical music in this island of ours. It also serves to demonstrate to the public generally that Freemasons are are an outward-looking organisation, and emphasises that we are not a threat to society but a private body which cares greatly for the community in which we live and work.

Classical music tends to be put ‘on the back burner’ by organisations  when sponsorship is being considered, and it was important to us to recognise the longstanding association that Freemasonry has had with music. Everybody knows about Mozart as a Freemason , but many performers and composers  have been members of the Craft, Haydn to name another (and the composer of the ‘Teddy Bear’s picnic’!).
